Associate Professor Wei (Wayne) Ji, Ph.D., U. of Connecticut, 1991, conducts research with geographic information systems (GIS) and satellite remote sensing techniques as related to ecological assessment, biogeographic studies, biodiversity conservation, and urban sprawl analysis. In recent years, he has received research funds from U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for several projects on GIS and remote sensing studies for wetland vulnerability assessment and ecological trend analysis. His early research also focused on marine and coastal remote sensing and GIS. He is supervising interdisciplinary Ph.D. students across academic fields of geoinformatics, computer science, and social sciences. He teaches courses in GIS, remote sensing, biogeography and landscape ecology, and environmental science.
